Filming the construction of the new railway

In the photo cinematographer Kornelijus Matuzevičius and film director Henrikas Šablevičius are looking for a right angle and distance to film the construction of the broad-gauge railway. The choice of a low-angle enabled to convey the sensation of force and threat which stemmed from the new railway and soviet industrial world. (By the way, it was prohibited to film military objects (cityscapes, bridges, etc.) in soviet time but this film’s team was not discouraged by the grimace of the Cold War, and they managed to get the military’s authorization to film the railway).
