Script with locations of the centenarians to be filmed in
Script with locations of the centenarians to be filmed in
It wasn’t easy to find living centenarians. They searched all over Lithuania. One of the first drafts of the script has a spontaneously handwritten list of possible locations where elders can be found and filmed.
Under the rules of the time, even documentaries had to have a script. Sure, the initial idea was always different from the final cut. While the rules obstructed the creative process, this material sheds some light on the evolution of the film’s idea. For example, not only can we see the locations where they intended to shoot, but also the initial version of the film, which later changed. In the script, the film had a very specific beginning: 'Every Sunday, a hundred-year-old woman comes to cry over the grave of her relatives in the empty graveyard of Zervynos village, near the Ūla River.' Although, the idea changed, the shots of a crying old woman survived.
